I've been hearing alot about Flats lately, both from people in the real world and people online- so I thought i'd take a trip there and provide a formal review for Worcesterite.
It was hard getting there. Not hard in the since that I couldn't find it, but hard because they are only open three days a week (Thursday, Friday, and Saturday) and no one informed me of this. I inquired about these odd hours, and they told me they will be opening up more days when they get more help, so no worries there. It was also hard finding parking... I had to park across the street, straddling a curb and hoping the neighborhood kids wouldn't hit my car with their ball (they didn't).
Upon entering the restaurant, I noticed it was fairly empty. By this, I mean, I was the only one there. I took a seat and ordered the following-
Breaded Mozzarella
A large Red sauce pizza with Garlic, gorgonzola, and buffalo mozzerella.
While waiting for my pizza, there was free onion and Romano foccacia with pesto to try.... it was delicious, and it was wheat (I hate wheat bread!).
When the mozzarella arrived, it was HUGE. I kid you not, this must have been a 2-3 inch thick WHEEL of mozzarella cheese... breaded and laid on a plate covered in red sauce and pesto- with wheat Italian bread encircling it. It was gone fast.

Then, our pizza came. Also humongous. Each slice had 3-4 cloves of roasted, buttery garlic and big hunks of Gorgonzola. It was delicious. I found out about halfway through, that the pizza tastes so much better with their yummy pesto on it, so i'll be ordering the green sauce next time.

I highly recommend you go give Flats a try!
Re: Flats Pizza
I more than agree you you flats is worth a try....great pizza. The parking is fine, with plenty on both Maywood and Park....a 30 second walk isnt all that bad. Have the hours changed? I was there not long ago on a Tues night and they were open, and Ive also been on a few Wed nights. Their hours have been Tues-Sat, open at 5.
Re: Flats Pizza
This is the best place ever - and the two guys I met, Paul the owner and Eric working the front - were two of the nicest guys around. We want them to cater our wedding!!

Re: Flats Pizza
have the hours ever been confirmed?
Re: Flats Pizza
Website says Thursday-Saturday but I am pretty sure they are open Tuesday and Wednesday too.
Re: Flats Pizza
If you read the website carefully you'll realize that it just says that they serve dinner "late night" on Thursday, Fri, Sat. Someone should make them aware of the confusion. I'm sure that its costing them business
Re: Flats Pizza
I was in there last Saturday and confirmed the hours:
Tues-Wed 5-9PM
Thu-Sat 5-230AM

woohoo! thanks Chris
Re: Flats Pizza
Will they cater to picky vegans? YES THEY WILL. Two thumbs up from me.
Re: Flats Pizza
so I finally tried this place now that they operate consistent normal hours and it was delicious.
I think it just stole my business from Corner Grille ...
Re: Flats Pizza
While I have had a great initial experience at Flats about a month and a half ago, I gotta say, my wife got take out pizza's from there last night and they were SO greasy that the slices were practically inedible. I had 3 slices (just mushrooms and garlic) and got sick to my stomach even after dabbing each slice with paper towels on the top and bottom. The grease was so bad it leaked through the bottom of the cardboard box, which I have never seen before on any pizza I have ever gotten. We will not be back until we hear things have changed.

Re: Flats Pizza
Sad to hear that as we are just leaving now to pick up a couple to bring to my sister's house. Gonna do a box check before I leave the joint.
Re: Flats Pizza
The couple times I have had it, it was great. So far so good.
Re: Flats Pizza
I've had it once. It was ok. I find the Corner Grille to be a bit better, but I am not really a fan of the cracker crust pizza. The potato chips were great, though, but I will not be rushing back there any time soon.

Re: Flats Pizza
Mixed review in my house on Flats. Generous toppings but heavy, leaden heavy, with an uber chewy crust especially if you need to rewarm it. And what's with the rectangles? They flop under the weight and can't be folded like a triangle can.
Also mixed on Fireside. Not a terrible pizza, Husband loves the meats on the meat one, but nothing at all like a wood fired pizza should be. I had great expectations, but am disappointed. Was hoping for something like we had at Pepe's in New Haven. Would rather have Bertucci's. Also very heavy, your jaw gets a workout.
I hope they both take constructive criticism well, because I like having options!

The other issues were that I called at 4:30 for a 5:45 pick up, so I didn't have to wait and they forgot to make my pizzas. Mistakes happen. Then when I tried to pay with my Discover card, they tried to refuse it, I have eaten there a number of times and paid with it, as it is the ONLY credit card I have. He told me that the fees were too high. I'm ok with that, but let your customers know, just take it and say that after this time you won't accept the card again. Don't forget to make my food, refuse my credit card and then pretend your the owner when I ask to speak to him, I know who he is and you aren't him. Edemame dip was awesome. Rant over, will be sticking with Corner Grille from now on.

Re: Flats Pizza
no matter how good the pizza is I can't eat the same stuff every time. Lately we have been getting Ciao Bella, very delicious, for now.

They have an awesome veggie pocket, but I'm a thin crust pizza gal. Louie loves their pizza.

If I had to choose I'd go thin crust too, New York style I guess. But I don't have to choose, sometimes I crave that doughy crush. I even enjoy a sicilian style or a deep dish every now and then. I know, I'm wild.
Re: Flats Pizza
If you have any issues with Flats you should speak to Paul the owner. He's a great guy and can certainly handle criticism. He would welcome it I assure you.
Re: Flats Pizza
I grew up on Sicilian, with my Sicilian family and all. It is the only pizza I make at home and what I prefer. Cracker crust is sort of a novelty for me and can eat it once in a while. The dough might be the most important part for me, though.
Re: Flats Pizza
Flats has opened a second location, on Canterbury Street, recently. I haven't eaten at that location yet, but it seems like a good sign that they're branching out. It's my favorite pizza in Worcester.
Re: Flats Pizza
Finally made it to Firewood Cafe on Chandler St. last night. They seemed a little surprised to have a group of eight people (birthday party) show up, which is a shame because everything there was fantastic. We paid about $15 for a large meatball/mushroom/spinach; there was plenty of cheese, the meatball slices were nice and thick, and the mushrooms did not look or taste like the generic Sysco crap-from-a-tin-can, but somehow the tasty thin crust did not collapse under all the weight. Their boneless wings were enormous and spicy too. Plus the manager (owner?), out of the blue, gave us a free pizza (buffalo chicken, large) because he said it was too burned to sell to someone as part of the pickup order they had placed. It was barely blackened on the outside edge of the crust. We spent an hour and a half there with nobody rushing to kick us out even though we took up three of the six tables in the place, and the staff thanked us profusely as we were leaving.
I think they might have just stolen my business away from Blue Jeans.
Re: Flats Pizza
I tried Firewood Cafe about a month and a half ago and neither the pizza nor the service thrilled me.
The concept of the pizzas we ordered were cool, but the result was somewhat flavorless.
We ordered by phone on a Friday night, but they were overwhelmed and hadn't started my order when I arrived (maybe 1/2 an hour after calling), though it didn't appear very busy. Anyway, I had to wait almost another 1/2 hour to get my pies. (Maybe that tainted the flavor.)
I think we'll stick with Corner Grille and Flat's.

Re: Flats Pizza
I love Corner Grille, but for the past year or so their pizza has had a slightly burned or over-smokey taste to it. Do they need to degrease their oven or something?
Re: Flats Pizza
Anyone know what happened to Flats? Are they closed?
Re: Flats Pizza
I don't know the details, but they are closed
