What time is a good time...to eat at the Armsby

terrible_buddhist's picture

I talked a couple friends of mine to drive down from Boston to check out the Abbey this Sat night...I know they don't take reservations, so what would be a good time to get there and have a reasonable shot at a table for 4?

Well, typically there is at least an hour wait from 6-10pm ...this past Sat I left @ 10:45 and there were still 7 parties waiting to be seated (Kitchen closes @ 11)

email me....I'll pull some strings :)

This past Saturday was crazy indeed. Super busy and everybody having great food, drinks and a great time.

greenandtemple, I'm going to have to take you up on that recipe offer for the tomato soup! It ruled. :-)

buddhist, We may see you there this Sat as we're taking my niece from NYC there for a belated birthday celebration.

And yet, I've lived your future out, by pounding stages like a clown

My wife had one of the soups there once (I think it was the tortilla soup) and I swear she spent the entire time trying to figure out what was in it because it was so good. Quite the compliment considering her mexican roots :)

I made the very same eyes upon first taste.

Of course after I made the happy face my tablemates demanded I share my soup.

Next time - poker face!

To anyone looking to come to the Abbey this Saturday night - make it later! We have approximately 50 people coming in at 5 o'clock for a 40th birthday party. I'm assuming they'll take over all the tables for at least 2 hours, maybe 3. Which clearly puts us past 6pm so make sure everyone is over 21 in your parties!
I'll be there that night "facilitating efficiency" which likely will be "managing insanity"...barely.

Re: What time is a good time...to eat at the Armsby

Craziness! The place was absolutely mobbed.

And I could not have been more impressed with how they handled it. The people they have working the door are about the best I have seen any where. Polite, friendly, and helpful. When we got in the person (whose name I wish I had caught) at the door took our name and told us it would be a wait...no problem. A little while later, he comes over to us and says...hey, there is a spot over there to hang out in while you are waiting. Awesome.

The service was quick and attentive despite needing to crowd surf to get to our table :) For beer, I had one that was ok, don't remember the name. Then Mr. Donovan turned me onto the the cisco ipa, very good, and then I had the double tripel...awesome.

One thing I like/ hate about the abbey is the changing menu. It seems every time I have a favorite, it gets shuffled off the menu...which then forces me to try something new...and then I have a new favorite :) This time I tried the pulled pork platter. Normally, I am not a fan of vinegar sauces, but have built up a certain trust in Alecs creations that I figure I couldn't do wrong...and I didn't. I have never had a vinegar based pulled pork dish that I was trying to suck the juice out of every bite. The jalapeno corn bread was a perfect compliment to it. Of course we got the mac n cheeze...and for desert the tart. Balanced flavors allowed a taste of every ingredient.

So again I have to say awesome job, and thank you.

The new best time to go to the Abbey is during the Superbowl! Annie and I went with a couple friends last night. We spent a few hours eating and drinking without any TV, it was fantastic. Not crowded at all, great mix of blues playing, great food, great drinks and great company, very nice!

3am after a great band @ the Dive, slightly buzzed perhaps still high, sitting in front of a dream sandwich with Galactic's Quiet Please playing.

Ya...That's the best time to eat @ Armsby Abbey!!
