Tips When Posting Posters For Shows

I have been seeing people posting posters for shows in the forum here and it's great. I love posters and they are way more appealing to me than reading plain old text.

I recommend that when you post your images on this site that you additionally write the details for your show in text. For a couple reasons, this is important. This website is a great way to have your events turn up in search results in search engines like Google. In order for search engines to return result they index the site regularly but with just an image in a post, it is as if there is nothing there and with not return results for people searching for your event.

Another reason to add text is for people browsing the site in RSS readers or mobile devices that are not showing images. They will read the subject and then see nothing else.

Another tip regarding SEO (search engine optimization) is to have a description that would be searchable. If someone is looking for something as specific as "John's Awesome Jug Band & Street Choir" they will surely turn up in a search engine. That is the easy part, what you really want is for people who are searching for general terms. So when you make your post promoting your shows, be sure to have the essentials, name, date, time, address but also some details about the location and the event.

Thanks. Noted.

Are dates, etc, listed in the post heading enough to grab Googlers?

Yes they help but ideally you would have the subject and then the details in the body. Even better are linking to other sites from the post. If you link to the venue, the bands and anything else you might be referencing in the post it improves the SEO.
