How are you guys liking the new comment style? No reloading of the page, and a little easier I think.
I changed a few things that should make the site a little faster loading.
There is a new "private message" feature on the site. It's nothing too fancy but you can contact a user by clicking on their name and then clicking the "send this user a message" link at the bottom of their page.
You can get to your messages after you login under your name on the left column. Or right here.

as always, let me know if you have any questions about the site or how it works. If you have any big ideas that you think would work on the site let me know about that too.

What is a lightbox?

Re: Couple site updates
Lightbox is when you click on something and the screen goes black and a image or form pops up. The screen can be any color really, but often it is opaque black.
for instance, here is a image that using width I made 50px

here is that image, same size, but linked to the full size image.
here is the image, linked to the full size image but with the "rel=lightbox" tag, click it to see.
Re: Couple site updates
Oh I also improved the button for sharing content from the site. Really useful for spreading the word about a good thread on sites like Facebook and MySpace. Every post should have a "share" button and if you don't see the site listed that you want to share on, click "more" to see the full list.
Re: Couple site updates
Neato! Lightbox is fun for the whole family!
Re: Couple site updates
searching has been improved also. you'll notice now that when you search your results are displayed in order of relevancy and indicated with a %. This is based on keyword relevancy, time posted, number of comments and some other factors.
Re: Couple site updates
anything you guys would really like to see as a function on this site? I know private messages were a long time coming. What about notification on topics you are watching. Sort of like the "like" feature on Facebook.
Re: Couple site updates
I'd like to have some additional notification on the page when my login times out. I usually am checking the right sidebar for "# new" periodically and ignoring the left sidebar.

I will look into this. Are people often getting logged out unexpectedly?
Re: Couple site updates
Looks good, Duncan. The "AddThis" is a great way to easily share the content.
Haven't noticed a timed out session though.

Re: Couple site updates
Don't know about timed out, but sometimes I'm logged in and some times I need to do it. Seemed random to me...

Re: Couple site updates
I also get randomly timed-out but its very infrequent... I just saw it as a need to verify that I'm a real person :)
Re: Couple site updates
I never time out, ever, even if I log in at other locations then come home. i'm still logged in on my comp at home. my guess is it's on the user end not the site's end.
All done with nice.
Re: Couple site updates
The site shouldn't log you out from one computer if you log in on another. I have myself logged in on many different computers under the same name. If people are having an issue with logging in, being on the site and then suddenly not being logged in, that is an issue. Clearing your browser's cookies would be the first thing I would try, but I can also look in to more specific things if I know what browser and operating system you are using to view the site. And if any of you guys are using Internet Explorer, I suggest you don't. Try Firefox, Chrome or Safari as a free and better alternative to IE
Re: Couple site updates
The random logouts are happening to me with Firefox 3.0.10 and WinXP SP2.

Ok, has it done it in the past day? I have run a few possible fixes for this problem.
Re: Couple site updates
I had it happen to me yesterday twice, once late in the evening. I do not recall it happening today.
Re: Couple site updates
ok, I will try and figure out why that might be happening.
on a side note, have you tried Chrome for Windows? Really nice fast browser, I prefer it to FF, although it doesn't support all the fun extensions that FF does.
Re: Couple site updates
I use Firefox and I never get logged out.
Re: Couple site updates
Still randomly logged in and out, on Firefox.
Re: Couple site updates
I like Chrome as well.
