Ok, so I had a great time at the library tonight with my kids .
It was getting close to 9, so we checked out.
Come to find out, my daughter had a late charge of $10 on her library card, from 3 years ago. (We usually use my card)
So of course we need to take care of the balance due prior to taking out all of our wonderful books.
Ok, no problem.
Or maybe there is a problem.
The library doesn't take plastic.
Only had my bank card on me and no cash.
There was nothing he could do.
Not really anticipating buying anything at the library with cash or check
I had to leave the library with my kids.. with no books.
The guy took the books from my kids and you would of thought they were criminals. I'll have to take these ladies until your mother takes care of this. My two daughters left the library balling. Balling.... I tried to talk to a few people and there was "nothing they could do"
We left went to an ATM, they were closed and they wouldn't let us back in.
I know that they are only doing there job but seriously...
Is this 1982? Only cash and check?
Are the fees really that bad that we send a family home with crying kids over $10?
I felt like I was in a bad movie.
A painter paints pictures on canvas. But musicians paint their pictures on silence.
Re: Excuse me miss, please drop the books!
Unbelieveable. Had they sent ANY kind of notice about the late fees prior, to at least inform you there were some? And I agree about the cash or check thing...silly.
Sorry to hear.
I'm out getting my abs airbrushed on...leave a message
Re: Excuse me miss, please drop the books!
I didn't receive anything about the fees... wish I did
Re: Excuse me miss, please drop the books!
That's prety crazy...even my little podunk town library sends me notices...hmmm. Either way, ultimately it's the kids who lose, I hope it doesn't tarnish their love of reading...due to an unnecessary, bad experience....
You scoundrel. (kidding)
Re: Excuse me miss, please drop the books!
um... I think you meant "bawling" - I hope they weren't "balling"

Re: Excuse me miss, please drop the books!
Geez, it's not like you didn't return the books...
don't get me wrong, I agree with the notion of late fees for over renting and all that, but I think it should be directly proportionate to whether there was a waiting list for that book at that time too...
I still don't get them not giving you due notice tho, I don't agree with that at all...talk about blindsiding you.
Re: Excuse me miss, please drop the books!
Some of them do seem to get grumpy towards closing time; it depends on who you get. I would have thought they'd let you get them out on your card, instead, though.
$10 is when they cut off your card. Up 'til that, they'll still let you take out books.
Re: Excuse me miss, please drop the books!
if the fees were from three years ago, chances are that you did get an over-due notice back then and probably forgot about it.
ten dollars is the cap on fines - no matter how high your fine is, the library will only charge $10 - so the fine was probably more than $10
it is a drag, but the system automatically puts a hold on a card with a fine of $10 - and the card can't be used
sounds like a bad night all around, but i don't see how it's the library's fault. hope you got your books today!
Re: Excuse me miss, please drop the books!
Oh not its not the libraries fault at all... I just thought that the brand new sate of the art facility would have a debit card swipe...
its very weird to me.
Re: Excuse me miss, please drop the books!
you're right! the library is probably the only place i have to bring cash to these days...it does seem weird that with all their new tech stuff it;s still a cash enterprise
Re: Excuse me miss, please drop the books!
There are two, not one but 2 pizza joints in my town now (North Brookfield), that only take cash...big sign on door (no debit/credit cards)........oh yeah, no business then, sucker.
Re: Excuse me miss, please drop the books!
I am sure the library has little to no budget, credit card companies take a portion of the fees and they would have to raise the prices to compensate. That would be my guess as to why they've yet to go plastic.
I do think the cashier should have allowed you to take the books out on a different card or perhaps could have done some sort of override, that would have been the smart and kid-friendly way to handle the situation.
