The Networking Mixer is a casual get together, once a month, for musicians, promoters, writers and club owners to meet up and network.  There is no agenda, no fee and no reason that any involved in music shouldn't go. Bring your cd's, business cards and flyers for shows and meet other people involved in the Worcester music scene.

Tuesday June 03, 2008
Start: 8:00 pm
End: 11:00 pm

Every Tuesday with guests, doing new songs, old songs, borrowed songs, blue songs and everything in the middle .

Wednesday June 04, 2008
Start: 8:00 pm

Surely you know the drill by now. Hat On, Drinking Wine brings its cool brand of rootsy originals--and an eclectic mix of covers from folks like Wilco, the Pogues, the Decemberists, and Gram Parsons--to Nick's Bar and Restaurant (124 Millbury St. in Worcester) every Wednesday from 8-11:00 pm. Great German food, plenty of alcohol in many varieties, and you can listen to us play or eat your food or chat with your friends--we'll just be happy you're there.

Wondering about the band name? For no good reason, we made up a huge list of lines from Van Morrison songs, and that phrase from the song "Madame George" seemed like the best one.

My next favorite was "Shine Your Glory," from the song "Joe Harper Saturday Morning," but "shining your glory" sounded to me too much like a euphemism for . . . well, use your imagination.

Thursday June 05, 2008

I will be guest hosting a radio show called Folk Revival on WICN (90.5 FM) in Worcester, on Thursday night (June 5). They stream on line at www.wicn.org. I am on from 7-11pm. Listen, call in, make fun of me. This should be a good time.

Start: 8:00 pm

8:45pm The Woodrow Wilsons
A late addition to this bill, we are happy to have Boston's The Woodrow Wilsons making their First Friday debut. Two dudes, two ladies, whole lot of awesome.

9:15pm The Points North
St. Joe Hazelwood's Chris Alspach and Regina Peterson have joined forces with percussionist Dylan Clark (Tiger Saw, Grey Milk) to form The Points North. Taking the quiet stylings of SJH and adding drums to it has produced an indie folk sound that will make you want to go home and break out your Will Oldham records. This new band should not be missed.

10pm Tom Thumb
I think this just about says it all:
"his latest album, The Taxidermist, is the best expression yet of the little guy's vision - a nostalgic, late evening Americana. Somewhere between Bruce Springsteen and early Peter Gabriel, between the strings of an acoustic guitar and the keys of a harpsichord" -saidthegramaphone.com

11pm The Accident That Led Me To The World
"Basically, not enough indie bands today take the time to get folk and country songwriting right, but that ain’t the case with The Accident That Led Me To The World, who we’ll be referring to as TATLMTTW from here on out. Their newest album, The Island Gospel, comes across on first listen as a simple easy breezy half hour of mellow folk leanings. Further review reveals some truly haunting melodies, (seriously, don’t listen to “Caves” right before bed), wonderful boy/girl vocal interplay… and not a damned bit of percussion in sight. The instrumentaion stays stripped to the bare essentials: guitar, upright bass, banjo… and occasionally some clarinet for color."-retrolofi.com

Wednesday June 25, 2008
Start: 8:00 pm

Here we go again . . . This Wednesday, as every Wednesday, we'll be down at Nick's Bar and Restaurant, just off hip Kelley Square, from 8-11 pm. We'll play our music as well as covers from the bands and artists that inspire us, from Uncle Tupelo and Wilco to Dylan and the Decemberists.

I leave you with these words of wisdom from Peter Tosh's song "Legalize It," about the wondrous powers of marijuana. These are some quality lyrics, my friends. If this doesn't make you want to toke up, nothing will:

Legalize it - don't criticize it
Legalize it and i will advertise it

Some call it tampee
Some call it the weed
Some call it Marijuana
Some of them call it Ganja

Legalize it - don't criticize it
Legalize it and i will advertise it

Singer smoke it
And players of instruments too
Legalize it, yeah, yeah
That's the best thing you can do
Doctors smoke it
Nurses smoke it
Judges smoke it
Even the lawyers too

Legalize it - don't criticize it
Legalize it and i will advertise it

It's good for the flu
It's good for asthma
Good for tuberculosis
Even umara composis

Legalize it - don't criticize it
Legalize it and i will advertise it

Bird eat it
And they leave it
Fowls eat it
Goats love to play with it
