Re: Do You Work In Worcester

No.

But with $4.00 gas and a 100 mile round trip daily commute I am certainly keeping my eyes open here in the Woo. I've applied for a desk jobs at both Holy Cross and Clark recently but nothing has come to fruition as of yet.

No, but I wish I did. Would love to shorten the commute and save some gas money at the same time..

Re: Do You Work In Worcester

I work in Dorchester (yikes!). I spend upwards to 600 a month getting to my SHIT job. Everyday I check out worcesterworks.com and monster.com but there is such a lack of good employment opps in town, unless you want to sell cars or are a nurse.

Some somewhat local good companies to look into:
Monster, Maynard/Framingham
Staples, Framingham
TJX, Framingham
...that is if the corporate world is what you want to look into.

I work in Watertown, not right next door by any means.

I work out in Marlborough, right near the mall. I've worked at several places in Worcester, and while the commute was great, I love my job now so the extra 20 minutes each way is well worth it.

Re: Do You Work In Worcester

I check Worcester works and monster all the time too. If you are in the medical field this is the place to be.. other wise, you are kinda out of luck, which is always surprising to me, but that is the way it is unfortunately :P

Depending on what you want out of a job, of course, you shouldn't neglect to check the websites of all the local colleges for job opportunities. There is nothing like working on a college campus--generally beautiful settings, surrounded by young people all the time, cultural and intellectual things happening all around you. You can't beat it.

Re: Do You Work In Worcester

I work in Westborough. It takes me a little over 15 minutes to get there when I go in at night, about 5 minutes more to get home in the morning. Overall it's exactly 20 miles round trip, which isn't bad at all. If I ever get on days I can take the train in so gas cost will be even less of an issue for me than it is now.

I would love to work in town but it doesn't bother me that I don't. If I were in Framingham or further east it definitely would though.

I work in Worcester - good old public school teacher...small commute, free parking - what's not to love about that?

Re: Do You Work In Worcester

My daily drive is all the way out to Canton and back.

I check Worcester Works, Monster, and the college websites almost every day. I'm approaching my breaking point as far as gas goes. Thank goodness my car is paid off and I only have to deal with the gas as an expense not gas and a car payment.

I've had a couple Worcester "nibbles" as of late on my resume but nothing that has came to fruition.

Re: Do You Work In Worcester

I live in the Brookfields but work in Woodstock, CT. Not a bad ride (23 miles) but I do wish for something closer to home so I am looking (but only semi-actively). Worcester would shorten my commute, but the bigger reason I would love to work in Worcester is for the plethora of lunch-time options (hey, we all have our needs). I figure, if it's meant to be then the right job will pop up on my radar (I work in Manufacturing).

One suggestion for people that are looking at multiple job search sites is to use Indeed.com and have them all emailed to you. Since I've been using this, I don't worry any more about missed opportunities just because I didn't check a specific site. (I got my mother to use it as they prepare to relocate to Arkansas, it's working out well for her.)
