I'm not surprised. Didn't the last album tank? ALL the HYPE, because of Jack White, and it just sucked. I mean like just the other side of being passable rock, but not good.
Hmmm.

hmmm. didnt even know that much about them man. now knowing it's Jack White??? that's crazy. I think he's pretty talented... might have to listen to another song from them now. :-/
I just heard a different song by them on Sirrius today. I didn't know Jack White was involved until the song was over. I really have no overwhelming opinion of his music. Some of it I like, some of it I don't.
As for the song I heard, it definitely had a countryish flavor and I didn't change the station, which I am prone to doing...
WOW! I strongly disagree. The last record was excellent...because it tamed Jack White down and allowed him to focus on the songs with a full band , not just with that extra baggage he carries around...Meg White. I felt it was a much better effort than "Get Behind Me Satan" and "Icky Thump"...two records that show Jack obviously reaching at this point to find something new to do. Brendon Benson is a terrific songwriter as well. The new song is a little grating, but I applaud it's attitude and I think it's great how they released the album in the manner they did. http://www.rollingstone.com/rockdaily/index.php/2008/04/02/jack-white-talks-about-surprise-raconteurs-record/
Man, I don't know, I tried and tried with Jack White but nothing appeals to me, from his song writing to his guitar playing. The best thing about White Stripes is Meg.
I saw the White Stripes back before they got 'famous' famous at the old Lupos (man I miss that place). It was an awesome show and I became a fan.
I now look forward to hearing this 'country style tune'... as for the one that's on the radio it might be a little bit more appealing if it didnt sound like they're trying to be too Punk Rock vs. Iron Maiden.
(btw, speaking of Iron Maiden. great band, was my favorite growing up in the 80s).

Re: The Raconteurs
Understand that my comments were not a slag on Mr White as much as He's the only reason this band is getting any press.
