Stephen Lynch

I went to see Stephen Lynch on Saturday at the Hanover Theater.  What a nice job they did to that place.  Its really nice to see that kind of venue in Worcester.  I thought his set was very funny.  He's a pretty talented guy. I have only heard a few of the things he's done over the years and I thought it was funny, but thats about it.  I got the tickets for free so I decided to check him out.  I think the one thing that impressed me was that even though I didn't know alot of his material I still thought it was great.  The thing about comedy music is alot of the popularity comes from liking and getting used to the song.  Sometimes the comedy is either lost or not very clever and the only reason people like it is because its recognizable.  I saw Jimmy Fallon in college and he does music, but its just parodies of songs you know while doing an impersonation of the artist (usually singing about a troll doll).  Its not funny, but to some people its entertaining.  The thing i liked about Lynch was his ability to make his comedy outshine his music.  Although he's an above adequate singer he remains true to the fact that he's a comedian first, and a good one at that.  Just wondering if anyone else got a chance to catch that show.

Re: Stephen Lynch

I volunteered at the Stephen lynch show on Saturday. If you happened by the merch table at all I was the guy working it.

I knew nothing of Lynch prior to the show and watched a few clips on youtube that I wasn't all that impressed with. I was able to sneak away from the merch table and catch about 30 minutes of the show. I thought the songs were pretty funny, the standout was the Peanuts bit in my eyes. He handled a rowdy crowd pretty well and was able to shout down some of the hecklers. All in all a very good show from what I saw.

I'm glad the Hanover isn't shying away from booking this type of act, and it was cool to see the building filled with people that were 30 and under.
