I know someone here can recommend a few different analog synths...
Something small enough to prop near a drum set or tight quarters...
Something that has an organ setting as well as strings...
Something I can purchase without taking out a second mortgage...

you want a real analog synth or one of the new modeling synths. I love the Novation stuff. I have a K-Station that sounds amazing. They have a new board out now called a X-Station that looks like this.



It costs about $500
I also own a Korg MS-2000b that sounds pretty authentic.
Korg's new line of synths sound great. The MicroX is cool stuff.
