i just about always have used a powerstroke remo. like 3 weeks ago i replaced all my heads and figured id try out the powersonic drum head which has an integrated muffler on it. i put it on and fell in love with it right away. it sounds incredible.
i kick very hard and i really need a muffle. ive always used a pillow to get the right tone the way i hit and its always been a struggle to get it right. this thing needed very little adjustment.
its weird how fast you go through drum heads if you play a lot. i swear i dont even remember buying them when i was younger. i seem to go through them like every 6 months now.
Drum heads are pricey too, it sucks having to change them so often. Two heads for a bass drum run me over $60, granted the front head lasts a long time but the batter side, not so much. If it weren't for the little pad Remo gives you, I would break the thing within a few gigs.
I switched to coated heads on my toms years ago and have not felt the need to change them as often. I used to use either Ambassador or Emperor clear heads and they sounded noticeably better when they were new. With coated heads I actually prefer the sound after some use. I have coated Ambassadors now and think they sound great.
oh totally. i used to go back and forth from the traditional 80s metal pinstripe clears to the coated. i hated the coated when i was metal. my hair was awesome though.
i fucking LOVE the coated now. especially with decent drums... such a difference.
i used to be obsessed with these fucking 40$ falams for the snare becasue i thought they were the cause for a snare sounding good. coated ambassador now all the way. fucking snare drum sound is absolutely perfect with it. i replace that more frequently, like every couple of months... snare sounds SO good when new.
i dont know about you, but for some odd reason i never throw away my used drum heads. i have a collection of them. i think im saving them for the end of the world.

I'm pretty sure you're the only one in Worcester. That's why you're in so many bands.

I miss it too! It simply doesn't fit in my car easily. I squeezed it in there to move it a couple days ago and I remembered why I dont play it often.
I am going to use it Saturday at the Dog with "Kraftwerk Orange"
come out!
