Banks Get Bailed Out, People Get Thrown Out

October 2, 2008 - 11:03am

Banks Get Bailed Out, People Get Thrown Out - The Esquivel family were evicted Thursday from their home in Roslindale. That same morning they had gone to the Boston Municipal Court in a last effort to stop the eviction. The judge did not rule in their favor. Raul and Anna Esquivel came back from court, tears streaming for their face, to find about 10 police officers on and around their property and another 40 people protesting the eviction. The picket was lively and emotional. Around forty people came out to support the Esquivels. The blockade was called by City Life/Urbana, and supported by many community groups, including Dorchester People for Peace, SEIU 615, the Boston No Eviction Network, the Boston Workers Alliance and others.

In addition he is making no commitment for funding beyond 2009.

Worcester Indymedia removes republished InCity Times article

September 14, 2008 - 10:41am
A controversial article from InCityTimes.org, republished and removed from other local websites, then submitted anonymously to Worcester Indymedia, then removed from InCityTimes.org, has been removed from Worcester Indymedia after a request from Rosalie Tirella, author of the article and editor of the InCity Times. Worcester Indymedia members felt that the article, a long series of angry personal attacks against one person, violated the editorial policies of the IMC site. Some of the e-mails sent to Worcester Indymedia collective members are on the mailing list archive. Anyone wishing to argue that this post or posts like it should appear on Worcester Indymedia is invited to discuss the issue on the mailing list or bring it up at the next collective meeting.

Worcester’s Pools and Beaches Still Last

July 8, 2008 - 3:15pm
Public Works and Parks Commissioner Robert Moylan organized a tour of two city pools for City Councilors the day before this year’s pool season kicked off. Members of Save Our Poolz found out about the tour and joined in, lucky enough to end up crashing a planned media photo-op. The tour of Tacoma Pool just knocked everyone over. Although Great Brook Valley residents had asked, probably even pleaded that bathroom doors be re-installed in the bathrooms, there wasn’t a single door in either the Boys or Girls rooms.
